Innovation in Crop Protection: The Lusioso Tomato

Global breeding leader Rijk Zwaan introduced the Lusioso hybrid as a definitive answer to one of the most severe threats facing the greenhouse industry—the Tomato Brown Rugose Fruit Virus (ToBRFV). At a time when many traditional varieties are losing profitability due to pathogen pressure, Dutch breeders have focused on comprehensive resistance and consistent yields.

Lusioso belongs to the segment of red, flat-shaped tomatoes, which are highly valued in the fresh produce market for their aesthetic appeal and transportability. This hybrid does more than just protect the grower's investment against Fusarium; it ensures predictable results in professional greenhouse environments, where minimizing quality loss is critical.

Key Advantages

• Biological Security: High resistance to ToBRFV makes Lusioso a strategic choice for regions with high infection pressure.
• Efficiency: Genetic protection against Fusarium wilt allows for a reduction in fungicide applications, supporting more sustainable farming practices.
• Market Quality: The flat-round fruit shape is considered a benchmark for premium tomato segments, maintaining excellent firmness during transit.

This hybrid is perfectly suited for operations focused on professional-grade production. Rijk Zwaan has spent decades refining genetic lines resistant to ToBRFV, and Lusioso is the culmination of these extensive research efforts. Choosing this seed material is an investment in crop stability, ensuring every harvest meets high market standards for shape, color, and resilience.
