BLACK ELEPHANT

Black Elephant tomato is a medium-ripening indeterminate variety with a fruit maturation period of about 115 days after full emergence. The plant is tall, reaching a height of 1.2 to 1.6 meters, with large potato-shaped leaves and an open bush form. Flowers are intermediate type, with the first flower forming above the 8th-9th leaf, and subsequent ones appearing every three leaves. For successful cultivation, mandatory staking and formation of two stems are recommended.

Fruits of the Black Elephant variety are large, flat-round, and strongly ribbed, weighing from 185 to 300 grams, sometimes reaching 350 grams. Immature fruits are green with a dark green spot at the calyx, while mature fruits turn into a rich dark-brown or chocolate color. The skin is thin and elastic, the flesh is juicy, red in color, with a tangy-sweet taste possessing pleasant flavor qualities. The fruits contain high levels of micro- and macroelements, phytoncides, and antioxidants.

The variety shows moderate resistance to late blight and brown spot, is not demanding in growing conditions and agronomy, making it suitable for cultivation both in open and protected soil. It is recommended to consume the fruits fresh immediately after harvest, although they are also suitable for home processing and preservation.
