Sweet Corn Nasoloda

Genetic Foundation: The SH2 Mechanism

The core advantage of the 'Nasoloda' hybrid is the integration of the sh2 (shrunken-2) gene, which inhibits the conversion of sugars into starch during the kernel maturation process. Unlike standard sweet corn varieties, 'Nasoloda' retains high concentrations of soluble sugars long after harvest. In practical terms, this ensures an extended post-harvest shelf life and maintains flavor integrity during long-distance shipping, making it a reliable choice for commercial supply chains.

Technical Specifications and Morphological Data

Developed by the Institute of Plant Physiology and Genetics of the NAS of Ukraine, this hybrid is tailored for professional fresh market production. Key technical features include:

• Maturity: A vegetation period of 60–70 days allows for efficient production scheduling.
• Ear Characteristics: A length of 22–25 cm with 14–16 rows of kernels ensures a high marketable yield per hectare.
• Ear Placement: Situated at 50–60 cm from the base, which is optimized for mechanical harvesting and ensures plant stability.
• Plant Architecture: Reaching a height of 190–200 cm, the plant develops an ideal canopy for photosynthesis at a recommended density of 50,000–55,000 plants per hectare.

As a product of Ukrainian scientific breeding, 'Nasoloda' requires strict isolation from other corn types to prevent cross-pollination, which could compromise the unique properties of the SH2 endosperm. When managed according to density protocols, the hybrid produces highly uniform, well-filled ears that withstand handling and transportation without losing premium appearance.
