Stable yields in temperate climate conditions

The 'Yason' three-line hybrid, developed by the V. Ya. Yuriev Institute of Plant Production, is a proven tool for farms focused on oil content and predictable results. With a vegetation period of 100–110 days, the plant successfully forms a large, flattened head, making it an optimal choice for regions with short or temperate summers.

Protection and agronomic strategy

The primary task this hybrid solves is minimizing risks associated with soil-borne fungal diseases. 'Yason' demonstrates high field resistance to a wide range of pathogens:

• Rot complex: highly effective against white and gray rot, as well as sclerotiniosis, which helps preserve the integrity of the seed head until harvest.
• Phomopsis: genetic resistance reduces the need for additional fungicide applications during the period of active growth.
• Broomrape (Orobanche): the hybrid is adapted to combat common races of sunflower broomrape, which is critical for fields with high infestation levels.
• Peronosporosis: a reliable barrier against downy mildew during early development stages.

Practical potential

Standing at 170–180 cm tall, the hybrid is well-suited for mechanical harvesting, as it is resistant to lodging and matures uniformly. An oil content of 50–55% makes the gray-striped seeds highly desirable for processing plants with strict quality requirements. Due to its morphology, 'Yason' efficiently utilizes soil moisture during critical development phases, ensuring a stable thousand-kernel weight.

Agronomists choose 'Yason' for fields where a combination of yield stability and broad-spectrum pathogen resistance is required, without the necessity for expensive intensive crop protection programs.
