Sunflower VA 306

Engineering approach to yield: VA 306 analysis

Hungarian breeding from the Woodstock company, distributed under the Kombiseed brand, presents a balanced solution for intensive farming in the VA 306 hybrid. The main focus here is on the morphological compactness of the plant, which fundamentally changes the nutrition logistics and resource distribution within the crop.

Plant architectural features

The stem height in the 90–100 cm range is not just a growth indicator, but a vegetative mass management strategy. Such compactness lowers the plant's center of gravity, increasing resistance to lodging even under strong wind loads. At the same time, growth energy is directed not into the "green mass", but directly into the reproductive organs.

Head and seed morphology

• Head type: Features a flattened shape and small size. The head geometry ensures uniform pollination and maturation, which minimizes the risk of losses during threshing.
• Seed parameters: The narrow egg-shaped, medium-sized grain, colored black, has a high shell density. Such seed morphology facilitates better threshing and reduces damage during the operation of grain cleaning units.

The practical value of this combination lies in the possibility of denser crop stands without significant competition for insolation. For an agronomist, this means predictable crop development and more efficient use of the feeding area, which is critical in conditions of moisture deficit or under intensive cultivation technologies.
