Sunflower Sokrat

Ukrainian Genetics: The Sokrat Sunflowers

The 'Sokrat' sunflower is a distinguished product of the V. Y. Yuriev Plant Production Institute of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine. Within the landscape of domestic selection, this variety represents a focus on agricultural stability, catering to farmers who prioritize proven genetics and predictable field performance.

Morphological Profile

The variety is defined by its compact architecture. Standing between 90–100 cm tall, Sokrat provides excellent uniformity, which simplifies mechanical harvesting and reduces the risk of lodging. This height profile is a strategic asset for modern farming, ensuring efficient nutrient distribution and ease of management throughout the growing cycle.

Natural Pest Resistance

A standout trait of Sokrat is its inherent resilience against common aphid infestations. By possessing genetic resistance to the cereal aphid, the variety allows for a reduction in the chemical spray schedule. For growers facing high pest pressure, this trait acts as both an economic and ecological advantage, minimizing the need for supplemental insecticide applications.

Market Position

Sokrat stands as a reliable, time-tested solution for fields across Ukraine. It is particularly valued by producers who require a stable yield without the intensive input requirements of premium-priced hybrids. The pedigree developed by the Yuriev Institute ensures that this variety is perfectly adapted to local climate conditions, making it an essential component for those seeking consistent quality and profitability in their crop rotation.
