L 158 — mid-early hybrid sunflower of linoleic type, developed by the breeding company ADVANTA and marketed in Ukraine under the name Haisan 158 IT. The vegetation period is 107–112 days, allowing the hybrid to be successfully grown under various climatic conditions across the country. Plants reach a height of 155–165 cm, with a flower head diameter ranging from 16 to 19 cm. Seeds are black and characterized by high oil content — over 52% — making this hybrid attractive for the oil industry. Oil content is 48–49%, and yield potential reaches 55 c/ha under optimal conditions. Hybrid L 158 exhibits high resistance to a broad spectrum of diseases, including downy mildew A–F, verticillium, brown rust, false powdery mildew, and also shows low sensitivity to fomosis, fomopsis, white mold of the flower head and root system, and gray mold. This resistance ensures stable yields and reduces the need for intensive fungicide applications. Moreover, the hybrid has genetically built-in tolerance to seven races of the parasitic weed dodder, significantly expanding its cultivation potential in various regions. L 158 is well-adapted to extensive cultivation technologies and can successfully develop even under water deficit, which is especially important for steppe and Black Sea regions of Ukraine. The hybrid demonstrates the ability to rapidly release moisture, facilitating seed preparation for sowing and reducing processing costs. It is recommended to use herbicides based on imazapir and imazamox (e.g., Evrolightning) for effective weed control. Thanks to its flexibility regarding microelement and fertilizer application, L 158 is a reliable choice for farmers aiming to achieve high-quality sunflower yields under various agroclimatic conditions.
