Consul is a new large-seeded confectionery sunflower variety developed at the sunflower variety selection laboratory. It was created by crossing line VK1-sur, which is the donor of the Sur gene, with an early-maturing confectionery variety, followed by two backcrosses, self-pollination, and group re-pollination with selection of resistant biotypes. Thanks to this, the variety has high productivity and resistance to sulfonylurea herbicides, allowing effective application of Sumo and ExpressSan production systems during its cultivation.
Plants of the Consul variety reach a height of about 165 cm and are characterized by increased 1000-seed mass — around 130 g. The potential yield is up to 39 centners per hectare, and the oil content of the seeds reaches 46%. The variety is resistant to diseases and pests, including Rhizoctonia solani A-E, which ensures its adaptability to various local growing conditions.
Consul is recommended for cultivation in various regions, including Central Black Earth, North Caucasus, Middle Volga, Lower Volga, and Western Siberia. Its high resistance to herbicides and pests, as well as large-seededness and high oil content, make this variety an attractive choice for producers aiming to obtain high-quality confectionery sunflower with good yield.
