Sunflower Castilla

Technological potential of the Castilla sunflower hybrid

The agronomic profile of the Castilla sunflower from AF Ukrainske Nasinnya is engineered for intensive farming operations focused on field cleanliness and consistent oil content. A primary technological asset is its genetic tolerance to the Clearfield (Euro-Lightning) production system, enabling agronomists to effectively manage broomrape and a wide spectrum of broadleaf weeds during critical growth stages.

Phytosanitary defense

The selection process prioritizes a robust defense system against pathogens that typically constrain sunflower yields in high-humidity regions:

• Sclerotinia and Phomopsis: High tolerance levels ensure the structural integrity of the stem and head, preventing lodging and seed degradation prior to harvest.
• Powdery mildew: Advanced breeding solutions reduce the incidence of foliar damage, preserving the plant’s photosynthetic capacity.
• Peronospora: Built-in resistance genes eliminate critical losses from downy mildew during early vegetative stages.

Morphology and vegetation

With a maturity period of 100–110 days, this medium-early hybrid facilitates efficient harvest planning. The balanced plant height (150–170 cm) minimizes the risk of lodging from wind damage, while the 45–50% oil content makes Castilla an attractive asset for the processing sector, ensuring high profitability for commercial grain.
