Genetic Protection and Productivity: The Potential of "Oti"

The French breeding school of Florimond-Desprez Veuve et Fils has prioritized the balance between intensive sugar accumulation and the biological resilience of the "Oti" sugar beet hybrid. As an E-type (yield-focused) hybrid, it features an oval-conical root shape, ensuring optimal depth and efficiency during mechanical harvesting, which minimizes losses across various soil profiles.

Phytopathological Barrier

The technical advantage of "Oti" lies in its complex resistance profile, allowing for a reduction in fungicide application during the growing season. The hybrid demonstrates high resistance to:

• Seedling blight (Root rot): Ensures consistent emergence even under unfavorable temperature conditions.
• Cercospora leaf spot: A critical factor in maintaining photosynthetic leaf surface until late autumn.
• Rots: Minimizes storage and post-harvest transport risks.

Of particular note is its resistance to nematodes. This trait is vital for operations with intensive crop rotation cycles, where soil-borne pests can destroy up to 30-40% of the yield. The genetic makeup of "Oti" suppresses parasite reproduction, protecting the root system's integrity.

Sugar Accumulation Efficiency

A sugar content of 18-19% combined with a high-yield potential marks this hybrid as a highly efficient asset for the processing industry. The plant effectively converts solar energy into carbohydrates without over-developing foliage at the expense of root mass. The stability of biochemical indicators under field conditions allows for precise harvest scheduling, resulting in predictable yield outputs per hectare.
