Sugar beet Prima

Genetic Sugar Potential: An Overview of the 'Prima' Hybrid

When developing the 'Prima' sugar beet hybrid, the Serbian 'Institut Za Ratarstvo I Povrtarstvo' prioritized the equilibrium between vegetative biomass and sucrose accumulation. As a normal-sugar content type (NZ), this hybrid provides a strategic solution for farming operations aiming for consistent yields of root crops with high sugar output per hectare without compromising industrial quality.

Biological Defense: Robust Disease Resistance

The primary advantage of 'Prima' lies in its genetic resistance architecture, specifically engineered to combat the most devastating beet pathogens:

• Cercospora leaf spot: Inherent resistance reduces the need for frequent fungicide applications, significantly cutting input costs and chemical residue loads.
• Powdery mildew: The hybrid maintains leaf integrity effectively, ensuring optimal photosynthetic capacity throughout the entire growing season.
• Fusarium: Dedicated breeding efforts from the Institute protect the root system from soil-borne pathogens, even under unfavorable environmental conditions.

Technically, the high level of phytosanitary endurance in the 'Prima' hybrid ensures that the plant diverts its energy directly towards root development and sugar storage rather than defense mechanisms. This makes 'Prima' a highly reliable asset for intensive farming systems, where the predictability of raw material quality at the processing facility is paramount.
