Developed by the Institute of Sugar Beet of the UAAS, the ICB 0902 hybrid is a breeding solution of the NZ (normal-sugar) type. Under the intensive farming conditions of Ukraine, the primary goal of this material is to optimize logistics between the field and the refinery by ensuring a high sugar concentration (18-19%) while maintaining stable root weight.

Adaptability to Pathogens

The key feature of ICB 0902 lies in its comprehensive resistance to major yield-limiting factors. The technical design of this variety is aimed at mitigating threats that could otherwise reduce juice purity and final product yield:

• Rhizomania: Genetic resistance allows cultivation in high-infection zones without significant productivity losses.
• Cercospora and Powdery Mildew: A high level of field tolerance reduces the need for aggressive fungicide application, minimizing stress on the plant.
• Rots: The dense tissue structure and root morphology minimize the risk of pathogen infection during both growth and storage.

Morphology and Harvesting Efficiency

The geometry of the root (conical and oval-conical shape) ensures optimal soil penetration and facilitates the operation of sugar beet harvesters. This shape helps minimize losses during lifting and provides tight contact with soil, which is vital for maintaining moisture balance during dry spells. ICB 0902 demonstrates high uniformity in the field, which is critical for adjusting equipment depth and reducing the percentage of damaged roots during the harvest process.
