Table beet of the Russian single-seed variety is a medium-early and early-ripening variety with a period from germination to the beginning of commercial readiness of 90-100 days. Root crops are round in shape, uniform in size, with reddish-purple juicy flesh and insignificant ringedness. Root crop mass varies from 150 to 450 grams, depending on growing conditions. Leaves are semi-erect, oval, green in color with moderate wavy edges. The variety is distinguished by good taste qualities, resistance to bolting and good storability during storage, which makes it suitable for use in the autumn-winter period, as well as for pickling, freezing, and growing as bunching produce. Russian single-seed beet prefers neutral or weakly acidic soils with high fertility and requires high soil and air moisture to obtain high yields. The plant is sun-loving, poorly tolerates shading and overcrowded plantings, so it is recommended to sow seeds on well-lit areas with row widths of 25-35 cm and a distance between seeds of 7-15 cm. Sowing is carried out in late April – early May at a soil temperature of 6-12°C, to a depth of 2-4 cm. To improve growth and yield, it is recommended to apply potassium fertilizers and ash, as well as use complex mineral top dressings at the 3-4 leaf stage and further with an interval of 7-15 days. Beet responds well to loosening, weeding, and irrigation, especially in dry periods, but does not tolerate waterlogging. For planting, it is recommended to prepare the soil after legumes, cabbage, onion, tomatoes or potatoes, carefully digging and adding well-rotted plant compost and mineral fertilizers. Sowing furrows are irrigated with biopreparations for protection against diseases, and seeds are laid one by one with an interval of 10-15 cm, covered with soil and mulched to retain moisture. Harvest is harvested from late August to mid-September, carefully cutting the foliage along with the tail, after which root crops are cleaned, dried and stored at a temperature of +2…4°C in a cellar or basement. Thanks to its biological and agronomic features, the Russian single-seed variety is a reliable choice for growing in various climatic conditions in order to obtain high-quality and tasty table beet.
