Genetics of Productivity: The Strengths of the "Jeep" Hybrid

In developing the "Jeep" hybrid, Enza Limited breeders focused on the balance between leaf mass growth rate and resistance to key pathogens. Unlike standard varieties, "Jeep" is a high-tech solution for professional vegetable farming, where every day of vegetation is critical to farm economics.

Biological Defense as a Core Feature

A key feature of this hybrid is its built-in defense system. Resistance to downy mildew (peronosporosis) is implemented at the genetic level rather than through surface fungicide treatments. For an agronomist, this means lower pesticide input and predictable results even under high-humidity conditions, when the risk of fungal development significantly increases.

Morphology and Marketability

The deep green leaf color is not just an aesthetic trait but a marker of high chlorophyll concentration and efficient photosynthesis. The hybrid demonstrates excellent uniformity in size and density, simplifying both manual and mechanical harvesting. The leaf blade has sufficient elasticity to withstand transportation while maintaining its fresh market appearance without wilting.

Practical Application

This Dutch variety, "Jeep," is adapted for cultivation under various conditions, though its maximum potential is realized through intensive nutrient management. The hybrid is highly responsive to nitrogen fertilization, quickly forming a marketable rosette. This makes it an ideal choice for staggered production, allowing for precise planning of market availability.
