Ensuring Consistent Spinach Yields with «Sunangel»

In large-scale spinach production, managing soil-borne diseases and foliage pathogens remains the primary challenge for growers. The «Sunangel» hybrid from Rijk Zwaan provides a robust solution, offering the specific disease resistance needed to maintain high-quality stands throughout the growing season, particularly against spinach downy mildew (Peronospora).

Field Application and Agronomy

Designed for professional use where uniformity is non-negotiable, «Sunangel» excels in high-input farming environments. The variety is highly favored for:

• Large-scale open field production for multi-cycle harvest schedules.
• Fresh-market supply chains requiring high aesthetic appeal and shelf life.
• Processing applications where easy cleaning and minimal post-harvest trimming are essential.

Field managers value «Sunangel» for its soil adaptability and rapid establishment. The standout feature is its resistance to downy mildew, which serves as a critical tool for Integrated Pest Management (IPM). By minimizing the need for heavy fungicide applications, growers can significantly reduce production costs while ensuring compliance with strict residue regulations—an essential requirement for supplying modern retail chains.

The Bottom Line

Choosing «Sunangel» is a strategic decision to maximize sellable yield. A healthy, deep-green, and clean crop significantly reduces labor costs during harvesting and sorting. For producers targeting the premium segment, the variety’s deep-green coloration provides a distinct market advantage, ensuring that the harvested product remains eye-catching and fresh on the shelf.
