Spinach Bassoon

Ensuring Consistent Yields Amid High Pathogen Pressure

For commercial growers focused on the greens market, the Bassoon spinach hybrid by the Dutch breeding firm Pop Vriend Seeds-NL is synonymous with reliability. It is the preferred choice for operations where the risk of disease makes it difficult to secure high-quality yields with standard varieties.

Genetics-Based Disease Management

The core value of Bassoon lies in its comprehensive genetic resistance. Utilizing this hybrid allows growers to significantly reduce fungicide applications, as the plant exhibits strong immunity to spinach downy mildew (Peronospora farinosa f. sp. spinaciae). This is a critical factor for the baby-leaf segment and fresh markets, where the visual appearance of the leaf directly dictates market value.

Agronomic Advantages in the Field

• Leaf Quality: The foliage features a deep, dark green color that retains its intensity during storage and transit, enhancing retail shelf-life and consumer appeal.
• Harvest Efficiency: The variety develops a uniform, upright rosette habit, which is ideal for mechanized harvesting, reducing mechanical damage and minimizing harvest loss.
• Field Adaptability: The hybrid adapts well to various soil conditions, provided that basic nitrogen management and irrigation protocols are maintained.

Investing in Dutch breeding expertise from Pop Vriend Seeds-NL means minimizing crop rejection. In field production, Bassoon displays excellent uniformity, allowing for efficient, timely harvesting and ensuring that the final produce meets strict market standards with minimal yellowing or leaf damage.
