A 2025 Breeding Breakthrough

The "IR Zastava" soybean is the result of years of dedicated work by breeders at the V.Ya. Yuriev Plant Production Institute of the NAAS. Registered in the State Register of Plant Varieties of Ukraine in 2025, this variety addresses the demand from Polissya farmers for stable and predictable yields. Developed through classical breeding methods, the variety embodies an academic approach to adaptability and productivity.

Adaptation to Polissya Conditions

The primary specialization of "IR Zastava" is grain production. Its early maturity allows for the efficient use of the short growing season in the northern regions of Ukraine. The semi-determinate growth type, combined with moderate stem height, ensures resistance to lodging, which is critical for mechanized harvesting.

Morphological Features

• Flowering and Development: Early onset of flowering (purple flowers) allows the plant to maximize the use of moisture during the first half of the summer.
• Plant Structure: The semi-erect habit and weak pubescence of the main stem (gray color) promote good ventilation within the crop, reducing the risk of fungal diseases.
• Grain Characteristics: The seeds are round-elongated with a yellow seed coat and a light brown hilum. The 1000-seed weight ranges from small to medium, which is an optimal indicator for early-maturing varieties, ensuring high germination energy.
