The Agat soybean variety is a medium- or early-maturing hybrid developed by the Krasnohrad Experimental Station of the Institute of Seed Production of NAAN Ukraine and included in the State Register of Plant Varieties of Ukraine since 2000. It is recommended for cultivation in forest-steppe and steppe zones, as well as in the Central Chernozem region of Russia, including Lipetsk and Belgorod Oblasts. The vegetation period of this variety is approximately 103 days, ensuring early flowering and seed maturation.
The plant has a medium height of 70–75 cm, which can reach 120 cm with irrigation. The stem is indeterminate with reddish-brown hairs, the flowers are purple, arranged in a raceme of 6–8 flowers. The seeds are oval, yellow with brown pigmentation or a yellow hilum, with a 1000-seed mass ranging from 149 to 197 g. Protein content in the seeds reaches 32.4–38.0%, and oil content — 21.7–22.5%, making this variety valuable for high-quality raw material production.
Agat is distinguished by high yield — on average 2.0 t/ha, reaching 2.8 t/ha with irrigation, and in some regions of Russia, yield can reach 3.69 t/ha. The variety exhibits resistance to lodging, drought, shattering, and main diseases, ensuring stability and reliability in cultivation under various climatic conditions. These characteristics make Agat an attractive choice for agricultural producers seeking high-quality and high-yielding soybean crops.
