RSK Kakholong is a mid-early grain sorghum (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench) variety intended for cultivation in various regions of Russia. The plant is characterized by medium height, as well as the absence or very weak anthocyanin coloration of the coleoptile and the sheath of the first leaf. The grain kernel of the variety is round and elliptical in shape, which facilitates processing and crop processing. The mass of 1000 seeds is 26.5 grams, indicating good seed material quality.
The variety is included in the State Register of Breeding Achievements for the North Caucasus and Lower Volga regions, confirming its adaptation to various climatic conditions. Average grain yield in the North Caucasus region reaches 25.1 centners per hectare, and in the Lower Volga region — 17.2 centners per hectare, while the variety shows an addition to the standard of 1.9 centners. Maximum yield indicators were recorded in 2020: 63.8 centners per hectare at the Kirov State Variety Testing Site in the Republic of North Ossetia and 36.5 centners per hectare at the Yelan State Variety Testing Site in the Volgograd region.
RSK Kakholong is distinguished by its stability and high productivity, making it attractive to agricultural producers focused on obtaining high-quality grain. Due to its characteristics, the variety is suitable for cultivation in various agro-climatic zones, ensuring good yield and product quality. The authors of the variety are specialists Alexey Anatolyevich Shatrykin, Nadezhda Sergeevna Sharko, and Elena Viktorovna Karyakina, confirming the scientific basis of the breeding.
