SAMUR 68 is a medium-early grain sorghum hybrid distinguished by high yield and grain quality. This variety features large white grain with an oval elliptical shape and a semi-cereals endosperm, making it ideal for processing and grain-forage production. The plants are low-growing, single-stemmed, and well-uniform in ear positioning height, which facilitates harvesting and reduces grain moisture. The mass of 1000 grains ranges from 21.3 to 32.1 grams depending on the growing region.
SAMUR 68 exhibits high drought tolerance and resistance to lodging, receiving 9 out of 10 points, and demonstrates excellent protection against grain aphids with a rating up to 10 points. The vegetative period is 95-105 days, allowing the hybrid to be successfully cultivated in various climatic conditions, including the North Caucasus, Central Black Earth, Middle Volga, and Lower Volga regions. Average grain yield reaches 20.7–27.2 c/ha, while maximum yield indicators exceed 50 c/ha, confirmed by test results on various state variety testing sites.
Due to its characteristics, SAMUR 68 is a stable and high-yielding hybrid suitable for intensive farming and industrial processing. Early senescence of foliar-stem mass facilitates harvesting and reduces grain moisture, improving the quality of the final product. The high alcohol recovery rate from grain makes this variety attractive for bioethanol production and other industrial purposes.
