Barbados

Barbados lettuce is a mid-season leaf variety recommended for growing in open ground. The plant forms a semi-upright rosette about 26-34 cm high and 28-32 cm in diameter. The leaves are large, elliptical in shape, with a reddish tint and an anthocyanin purple sheen; they have a folded and wavy surface with a delicate crisp texture. The mass of one plant reaches approximately 420 grams, ensuring a high yield of up to 4.9 kg per square meter.

For planting Barbados lettuce, it is recommended to use seedlings sown in March-April, then transplanted into the ground in May with an optimal spacing of 30x30 cm. Direct sowing of seeds into open ground is also possible in April-May. To form a powerful and healthy rosette, regular and moderate watering is required, which should avoid both waterlogging and soil drying out.

The lettuce is distinguished by excellent taste without bitterness, with a neutral and pleasant aroma. Its juicy and nutritious leaves are widely used in cooking, making the Barbados variety a popular choice for growing in private farms and garden plots.
