Lettuce Dessert

Why «Dessert» by Agrofirma Aelita is a top choice for early salad production

The «Dessert» leaf lettuce variety is the result of focused breeding work by Natalia Nastenko, Vladimir Kachaynik, and Alexey Kandoba. In the market, this variety occupies a specific niche for early-maturing crops aimed at producing tender, vitamin-rich leaves in a very short window. Its main advantage over more industrial, coarser hybrids lies in its sensory qualities: the leaves are exceptionally succulent and lack the bitterness often found in many common lettuce varieties.

Agronomic Features

• Earliness: The rapid ripening period allows for highly efficient use of land, leaving space for mid-summer secondary plantings.
• Plant Type: The variety forms a neat, compact rosette, making it equally convenient for "cut-and-come-again" harvesting or harvesting the whole plant.
• Stability: As a distinct variety, «Dessert» performs predictably across various soil types, making it a reliable choice for both home gardeners and small-scale farmers.

Strengths and Cultivation Tips

The plant’s plasticity is its definitive strength. It adapts quickly to spring temperature fluctuations, which is critical for early season planting. The average weight of the rosette provides a predictable yield per square meter. However, like most tender leaf varieties, «Dessert» requires consistent moisture. If the soil overheats or dries out, the leaves can lose their signature crunch, making mulching an essential practice for this variety.

This lettuce is ideal for those who prioritize culinary presentation and seek a variety with a "clean" taste for fresh garden salads. It is forgiving for beginner gardeners while ensuring high-quality, professional-looking produce at the very start of the season.
