Description
Adamas is a winter rye grass variety of medium height, approximately 61 cm, with light green leaves that are hairy on top and deeply dissected. The plant reaches a height of about 55–61 cm, with lower branches touching the ground at a height of about 27 cm.
Adamas seeds have a yellow-brown color; the mass of 1000 seeds is 1.3–1.4 g. Seed yield ranges from 10.9–11.7 centners per hectare at standard moisture levels, while green mass yield is 143.4 c/ha. Fat content in seeds reaches 43.9–44.5%, making them a valuable source of oil. The oil contains erucic acid (2.94%) and glucosinolates in the meal at 20.4 µg/g.
The vegetation period lasts from 324 to 330 days. The variety is distinguished by high winter hardiness, resistance to pests of cruciferous crops, as well as lodging, shattering, and drought. Due to these properties, Adamas is suitable for mechanized harvesting and is widely used as an oilseed crop.
