Winter barley variety Kharkivskoye 98 has been included in the National Register of Plant Varieties of Ukraine since 1999 and belongs to medium-maturing crops. Plant height reaches 110-130 cm, which contributes to good growth and grain formation. Grain is large, oval, gray-green in color, with a 1000-grain weight ranging from 32 to 38 grams. Grain fall time is within 280-330 seconds, indicating good grain retention and quality.
Kharkivskoye 98 is recommended for cultivation in various climatic zones of Ukraine, including the Polissia, forest-steppe, and steppe regions, confirming its adaptability to medium-maturing conditions. The potential yield of this variety reaches 7.0 tons per hectare, making it attractive for agricultural producers. The crude protein content in the grain is approximately 12.4%, ensuring high nutritional value of the product.
The variety is well-suited for mechanized harvesting due to its resistance to lodging and shattering. For optimal cultivation, it is recommended to plant after perennial grasses, peas, or corn for grain. The recommended seeding rate is 4.0 million viable seeds per hectare, ensuring good stand and crop development. All these characteristics make Kharkivskoye 98 a reliable and productive choice for farmers.
