Rye Kharkivskoye 98

Genetic Profile and Field Adaptability

The winter rye variety 'Kharkivske 98' is a product of the V. Ya. Yuriev Plant Production Institute (NAAS of Ukraine). This variety is engineered for regions where winter hardiness and early spring development are the primary factors determining the final yield. It represents a mature selection focus on sustaining plant population density under variable climatic conditions.

Disease Resistance as a Technical Driver

The agronomic value of 'Kharkivske 98' lies in its pre-bred resistance to the primary pathogens affecting winter cereals. By minimizing the impact of these diseases, the variety secures its yield potential without excessive reliance on emergency fungicide applications:

• Snow Mold: The high resistance profile ensures that the crop maintains an optimal stand density upon snowmelt, a critical advantage in regions with erratic winter temperatures.
• Brown Rust (Wheat Leaf Rust): The genetic makeup prevents early senescence of the flag leaf, ensuring prolonged grain-filling periods and maximum kernel weight.
• Powdery Mildew: The variety exhibits robust tolerance, effectively limiting mycelium development during high-humidity periods in the spring.

Agronomic Performance

As a mid-season variety, 'Kharkivske 98' is optimized for efficient use of stored winter moisture and early spring rainfall. The growth cycle is predictable, facilitating precise timing for nitrogen top-dressing and protective applications. This variety is recommended for farming operations seeking reliable, stable performance across diverse soil types, backed by proven Ukrainian breeding technology.
