The rootstock "Volga 12" is a semi-dwarf clonal rootstock specifically developed for the conditions of the Middle Volga and Southern Ural regions. It features high root system winter hardiness – no freezing was observed in steppe conditions on the Ural, and it maintains stability during drought. Trees reach a height of 3.8–4.0 m and become productive after 30 years.
The yield of this rootstock is high: compared to control varieties (e.g., "Spartak" and "Antonovka"), the yield exceeds indicators by more than two times. The multiplication coefficient of rootstocks reaches 100–120 thousand/ha, making it attractive for commercial cultivation. The rootstock is well compatible with various apple varieties, and cuttings root at a level of 4.0 points.
"Volga 12" is also widely used in breeding and horticulture: thanks to its disease resistance and adaptability to different climatic conditions, it serves as a base for creating new apple varieties. Under the conditions of the Southern Urals, second-generation forms have already been obtained, demonstrating increased productivity (1.5–2 times) and high multiplication speed. This makes the rootstock an ideal choice both for commercial production and for experimental garden work.
