Rootstock VOLGA 18

Reliable Foundation for Apple Orchards in Harsh Climates

Selecting the right rootstock is the backbone of orchard productivity. The semi-dwarfing rootstock "Volga 18," developed by the "Zhigulevskie Sady" Research Institute, is a technical solution tailored for regions with challenging weather conditions. Its primary value lies in extreme frost resistance: the root system thrives in temperatures as low as -35°C, eliminating the need for emergency covering or mounding in winter.

Practical Advantages for Orchard Management

• Predictable Growth Pattern: As a semi-dwarfing rootstock, "Volga 18" provides an ideal balance between vegetative mass and generative activity. This simplifies daily agrotechnical operations such as pruning, thinning, and mechanized harvesting.
• Proven Compatibility: The stock demonstrates high graft compatibility and strong integration with most popular apple varieties. This minimizes nursery cull rates and ensures consistent orchard uniformity.
• Maintenance Efficiency: Its high resistance to environmental stress allows for successful orchard establishment in areas where other rootstocks might fail due to ground freezing. It provides a stable base for trees that require less intensive care for root survival.

Utilizing "Volga 18" is justified for farms focused on long-term orchard performance. Trees on this rootstock enter the fruiting phase faster than those on vigorous rootstocks while maintaining sufficient structural integrity for cold continental climates. It is the professional choice for those prioritizing reliability, risk mitigation, and predictable harvest outcomes.
