Polesein 1103 is a vigorous, fertile rootstock variety obtained from the crossbreeding of Vitis berlandieri x Vitis rupestris, showing high resistance to unfavorable conditions. The bushes have an open structure, medium-strength canes that branch out, forming arching and rounded shapes with violet-red leaf coloration. The leaves are large, elongated, dark green, wrinkled, and matte, while the petioles are medium-sized, hairy, and pressed against the buds.
The variety is characterized by high resistance to drought, salt loads, and active lime in the soil. It withstands up to 30% carbonates and 17–19% active mobile lime, and tolerates waterlogged soils and spring flooding well. Thanks to its deep and branched root system, Polesein 1103 can efficiently utilize moisture and nutrients even in heavy soils.
The variety has a long vegetative period, which leads to a longer growth of canes (average length – 3.5–4 m) and late fruit ripening. The bushes have strong suckering, while leaves and petioles maintain resistance to fungal diseases, including root phylloxera, and to nematodes to a moderate degree. The variety suits most soil types – from acidic to carbonate – and can be used both in open beds and in field conditions with various climatic features.
