AZOS-2 rootstock is a grape variety used in breeding and grown in the Black Sea zone of Kuban. The leaf is of medium size, kidney-shaped, three-lobed, and almost entire. The upper leaf surface transitions from smooth to reticulate-crenate; the leaf edges are slightly turned upwards. There are three main veins, which are light-cherry at the base, while the lateral sinuses are small and open as an inward angle. The petiole sinus is open and wide with a flat-rounded bottom; the teeth are small and triangular. The leaf is almost hairless, with veins covered in bristles.
Bushes of this variety exhibit strong growth: shoots are upright, canes are brown transitioning to dark brown. The length of internodes is 14–16 cm, with rare and poorly developed suckers. Cane ripening occurs early and fully, ensuring a high yield of first-class cuttings – from 150 to 180 thousand pieces per hectare.
AZOS-2 rootstock is distinguished by high resistance to phylloxera and chlorosis, as well as a short vegetative period. In rainy years, isolated spots of mildew are observed, however, manifestations of lime chlorosis are absent. The variety is compatible with many European grape varieties, making it a valuable material for breeding work and the production of high-quality saplings.
