The «Capitolina» turnip variety is a mid-early culture with a period from full germination to the beginning of technical maturity of about 59 days. The plant forms a semi-erect leaf rosette of medium height with dark green dissected foliage, possessing weak pubescence and moderate toothedness of the edges. The root crop is round, two-colored: the upper part above the soil level is colored in an intense reddish-purple hue, while the lower part is white. The pulp of the root crop is white, juicy and tender, weighing about 107–110 grams. The taste qualities of the turnip are good, and the yield reaches 6.8 kg per square meter.
The «Capitolina» variety belongs to the cabbage family and is widely used for oil production due to the high fat content in the seeds — 40–45%. The oil is characterized by low glycerin and free fatty acid content, as well as a favorable ratio of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, which increases its value. Seed yield under optimal conditions is 3000–3500 kg per hectare. The variety is distinguished by good resistance to main diseases such as powdery rust, white scurf, and Phytophthora, which contributes to a stable harvest.
«Capitolina» is adapted to a moderately continental climate, capable of withstanding cold winters and hot summers. Early sowing, usually in late April to early May, avoids pests and diseases. To achieve maximum yield, it is recommended to prepare the soil with a pH level of 6.0–6.5 and apply nitrogen fertilizers in the amount of 120–150 tons per hectare, use mulching to retain moisture and suppress weeds, as well as preventive stem cutting and application of fungicides according to a schedule taking into account local conditions. The variety is suitable for mechanized cultivation and is widely used in both commercial plantations and small holdings due to its simplicity in care and high product quality.
