Radish Shrek

Radish 'Shrek': A Unique Approach to Root Vegetables

On the seed market, it is rare to find items that go beyond the usual "thirty days from sprout to bunch" cycle. The 'Shrek' variety, bred by Anatoly Vladimirovich Aliluev, breaks stereotypes about radishes. With a maturation period of 100-110 days, this crop moves out of the segment of fast-ripening snack vegetables into the category of "winter" or long-term storage root vegetables.

Agronomic Features

The key distinction of this variety is its mass. While a classic radish barely reaches 30-50 grams, 'Shrek' produces 250-300 grams of marketable weight. In terms of physical characteristics, it is closer to daikon or early radish varieties, making it strategically important for farmers targeting niche markets and long-term sales.

• Biological Cycle: Requires a long vegetation period, which excludes the possibility of ultra-early harvests, but allows for scheduling sowing in the summer-autumn period.
• Morphology: The rich red color of the root makes it visually appealing for retail, distinguishing it from paler analogs.
• Application: The high mass of the fruit gives the variety commercial significance — it is a complete product for processing and winter storage.

Target Audience

This variety is a choice for farms working with the restaurant segment or the organic market, where large roots with a dense structure are highly valued. It will not suit those looking for "quick money" on May radishes, as it requires long-term care and maturation. However, for those looking for a stable product for storage, the development by Anatoly Aliluev is a unique tool for diversifying the assortment.
