Radish Champion

Agrotechnical Profile of 'Champion' Radish

The 'Champion' radish variety from the Czech breeder Moravoseed is an example of specialized selection aimed at achieving stable, early harvests under varying lighting conditions. The primary technical advantage of this cultivar lies in its high plasticity, ensuring that root formation remains consistent regardless of soil structure complexity.

Morphology and Vegetation Cycle

The biological potential of this variety allows for marketable yields within 20 to 30 days post-germination. Rapid development is achieved through intensive carbohydrate accumulation in the basal rosette during early growth stages. The root crops exhibit precise spherical geometry, which significantly reduces processing losses during manual or mechanized sorting.

• Mass and Size Metrics: Marketable root weights range between 20 and 50 grams, indicating excellent uniformity across the crop when agricultural best practices are followed.
• Pigmentation: The vibrant, bright red skin color is attributed to high anthocyanin concentration, which not only enhances visual appeal but also improves resistance to micro-cracking.
• Pulp Structure: The flesh remains dense and succulent without a tendency toward premature pithiness or sponginess, which is a critical factor during periods of fluctuating soil moisture.

Practical Application

Leveraging Czech breeding expertise, the 'Champion' variety demonstrates high adaptability in both greenhouse environments and open-field cultivation. The key task for the agronomist is to maintain optimal planting density to ensure uniform light exposure for the plant canopy. Given the rapid root expansion rate, timely irrigation is essential; moisture deficits during the active bulking phase can lead to lower average yields toward the lower end of the weight spectrum.
