The winter wheat variety Zapashna belongs to the medium-height type and is characterized by high resistance to lodging, ensuring stable yields even under adverse weather conditions. This variety is distinguished by high tillering — more than 700 productive tillers per square meter, as well as enhanced winter hardiness, making it suitable for cultivation in various climatic zones, including Steppe, Forest-Steppe, and Polесье. Zapashna is suitable for cultivation following various preceding crops, both under conventional and intensive technologies, with recommended protection of plants against diseases and pests, as well as seed treatment before sowing to enhance seed viability.
Morphobiological characteristics of the variety include plant height of 79 to 81 cm with strong, thick stems, dark green leaf coloration, and cylindrical spike shape measuring 10.2 to 12.6 cm in length. Grain is oval and light-yellow in color, with a 1000-grain weight of 42-45 grams. The variety demonstrates high resistance to diseases and stress factors: lodging resistance rating — 9 points, shattering resistance — 8-9 points, root rot resistance — 8 points, as well as 7 points for septoria, fusarium, brown rust, and powdery mildew.
Zapashna responds well to nitrogen fertilizer applications in the spring, which contributes to achieving high yields with a potential of 92.3 ц/га. The variety has high bread-making quality — 4.6 points, gluten content ranging from 30.2-32.4%, and raw protein content from 13.6 to 14.8%, making it attractive for producing high-quality flour and bakery products.
