Aquilegia prefers moist, well-drained soils with neutral pH and thrives in partial shade, though it can also grow in more sunny locations. Sowing aquilegia seeds is recommended in spring after about one month of stratification or in autumn using freshly harvested seeds. The optimal temperature for germination is between 5 to 18 degrees Celsius. Flowering occurs in the second year after sowing and lasts approximately three weeks in May. If flower stalks are not cut, the plant forms numerous seed pods, ensuring abundant self-seeding. Aquilegia can grow for up to five years in one location. Care for aquilegia is simple and includes regular watering and fertilization, although the plant is relatively tolerant of watering. After flowering and removal of flower stalks, the bush retains its decorative appeal due to its dense foliage, up to 30 cm tall.
