Description Soborna
The potato variety Soborna is a medium-ripening table variety developed by Ukrainian breeders of the Institute of Potato Breeding of NAAN. The vegetation period is approximately 110 days, ensuring stable maturity and high yield—up to 43-45 tons per hectare with proper agronomy. Plants are of medium height, well-branched, with purple-red flowers. Tubers have an oval-round shape, pink skin with surface eyes, and an average weight of about 80 grams. The flesh is light-yellow, with starch content of 16.9-17.8% and dry matter of 25%, giving the potato excellent taste qualities rated 8.9-9.1 out of 10.

The variety belongs to culinary type B, characterized by low breakdown, moderate flesh density, and low moisture content. This makes it versatile for various cooking methods: potatoes are ideal for soups, stewing, baking, boiling, and especially for producing chips and French fries. When fried, tubers form a crispy crust on the outside while remaining tender inside. Additionally, the potato withstands transportation well and can be stored for up to 6-7 months.

Soborna exhibits high resistance to a broad spectrum of diseases, including viral infections, fusarium, ring rot, and wet bacterial rot, as well as nematodes—potato cyst nematode and stem nematode. The variety also shows drought tolerance and adaptability, allowing successful cultivation on various soil types and in different climatic conditions. Due to these qualities and high marketability (around 92%), the potato Soborna is popular among both farmers and gardeners.
