European plum Ural'skaya Zolotistaya

Operating Guidelines for 'Uralskaya Zolotistaya'

This variety belongs to the Chinese plum group, which dictates specific maintenance requirements for canopy management. The tree exhibits vigorous branching, meaning regular pruning is an essential maintenance task. Neglecting canopy formation leads to excessive density, which complicates harvesting and restricts airflow, potentially inviting problems that the tree would otherwise be resistant to. Efficient pruning keeps labor costs per tree manageable during the harvest season.

Phytosanitary Status and Resilience

One of the primary benefits for an orchard operator is the high natural immunity of this variety. By choosing this cultivar, you can significantly reduce the frequency of chemical interventions. The variety demonstrates strong resistance to:

• Fungal infections: Verticillium wilt, Monilia (brown rot), Clasterosporium, and Gnomonia.
• Viral diseases: Chlorotic spot virus.
• Pests: The tree shows high resistance to plum curculio, winter moth, and San Jose scale.

This biological durability translates into lower operational costs for fungicides and insecticides, simplifying the annual spray schedule.

Maintenance and Cultivation Considerations

Effective orchard management requires careful planning regarding pollination. As a Chinese plum variety, 'Uralskaya Zolotistaya' requires compatible pollinators blooming at the same time to ensure high fruit set. Without strategic placement of pollinators, the return on investment per tree will be low. Additionally, the root system is sensitive to waterlogging. Ensuring proper drainage in the soil profile is a critical maintenance step to prevent root rot and ensure the longevity of the plantation.
