Description
Mary Nichols peony is an early-flowering herbaceous variety that has been cultivated since 1941 and is rightfully popular among gardeners worldwide. Its distinguishing feature is large, fully double white flowers with a delicate pinkish tint that gives the petals a silky texture and elegance. The flower diameter reaches 20 cm, while the plant height in the garden is about 80-85 cm. Blooming begins in mid-May and, thanks to numerous side shoots, continues for several weeks, creating a long-lasting and impressive floral display.
This variety belongs to hybrid herbaceous peonies, which are characterized by sturdy stems and healthy, beautiful foliage. Mary Nichols prefers sunny or slightly shaded locations, with light partial shade recommended in southern regions. Successful cultivation requires fertile, well-fertilized, and drained soils without water stagnation. During planting and at the beginning of the growing season, it is beneficial to apply complex fertilizers and mulch the soil around the bush to retain moisture. Regular watering with drying between procedures promotes healthy plant development.
Mary Nichols peony winters well in Ukraine conditions without additional covering, although protection for young plants is recommended in the first winter. After flowering, spent stems should be removed to maintain the bush's decorativeness and health. Thanks to its hardiness, resistance, and prolonged flowering period, this variety is an excellent choice for sunny flower beds and decorative gardens, adding elegance and sophistication to them.
