Peony SEIBOL

An Early-Season Statement: The Seibol Peony

The herbaceous peony 'Seibol', developed by the Federal Research Center for Horticulture, represents a shift away from overly complex double blooms toward the raw elegance of simple, open-faced flowers. In modern landscape design, where the "naturalistic" look is paramount, this variety offers a refreshing, architectural aesthetic.

The defining characteristic of 'Seibol' is its intense coral-red palette. The color depth fluctuates beautifully with the shifting light of late May, making the plant a dynamic focal point in any garden setting.

Key Specifications

• Flower Type: Single, offering high resilience against heavy rain and wind.
• Bloom Size: Up to 17 cm in diameter, providing a bold visual impact.
• Flowering Period: Early (May 15–30), ideal for jump-starting the garden season.

Advantages and Considerations

Why it stands out:
The greatest strength of 'Seibol' is its self-supporting nature. Unlike heavy-headed varieties that require unsightly staking and cages, 'Seibol' maintains its upright posture with ease, even after spring showers. Its longevity in a vase makes it an excellent choice for cut flower arrangements, as the simpler petal structure holds up better than denser cultivars.

Cultivation Notes:
Success with 'Seibol' requires two things: excellent drainage and full sun exposure. Because it lacks the shade tolerance of some foliage-heavy peonies, it should be placed where it can soak up maximum light to keep its coral pigment vibrant. It is not suitable for waterlogged soils, so soil preparation is key for long-term health.

For the gardener who values structural integrity and early-season impact, 'Seibol' is a low-maintenance, high-reward choice that eliminates the need for constant garden labor.
