Late autumn variety bred by the South Ural Institute of Fruit, Vegetable and Potato Growing, obtained by crossing hybrid 41-15-9 (seedling of Ussuri pear) with the variety Severyanka. Breeders: E. A. Falkenberg, M. A. Mazunin, L. I. Bolotova. Approved for the Volga-Vyatka region.
Medium to tall tree, fast-growing, with a narrow-pyramidal crown of moderate density. Main branches are straight, emerging from the trunk at nearly vertical angles, arranged compactly, with tips pointing upward; bark on the trunk and main branches is smooth and gray; fruiting occurs mainly on simple and complex rings.
Shoots are medium-sized, straight, round in cross-section, brown, hairless. Buds are few and small. Buds are pressed, elongated, conical. Leaves are medium-sized, elongated, rounded or egg-shaped, short-pointed, green, glossy, with delicate venation, hairless. Leaf margin is finely serrated and wavy. Leaf blade is curved downward. Leaf margin is finely serrated and wavy. Petiole is long, thin, hairless. Stipules are absent.
Flowers are medium-sized, white, small-cup-shaped, petals oval; stigmas are medium-sized, slightly hairy, stamens positioned higher than stigmas.
Fruits are small, one-dimensional, bergamot-shaped or short-pear-shaped, with smooth surface. Skin is rough, waxy, dull, greenish-yellow at harvest time and golden-yellow at consumption. Few small lenticels are present. Peduncle is long, thin, curved, upright. Receptacle is small, acute-conical, rust-free, with a small, broad, ribbed plate. Seed cavity is bulbous, chambers closed. Calyx tube is cup-shaped, medium-sized, seeds are egg-shaped, dark brown.
Flesh is creamy, medium density, juicy. Sensory taste score: 4.2 points.
Fruits contain 14.8% dry matter, 10.2% sugars, 0.92% acids. Sensory taste score: 4.2 points, appearance score: 4.0 points.
Fruits ripen in late September and can be stored for 1-3 months. Transportability is good. This is a table variety, suitable for making jams, compotes, preserves, and dried fruits.
Average yield: 62 centners per hectare, annual fruiting.
Winter hardiness is moderate; during the 1978/79 winter, trees were damaged to 2.5-3.7 points (Severyanka was damaged to 4.5 points under these conditions). Exhibits increased resistance to spring frosts affecting flowers.
The variety is not damaged by pear gall mite and is resistant to scab.
Advantages of the variety: donor of high winter hardiness, good taste of fruits, resistance to scab (E. A. Falkenberg, 2006).
