The field pea variety Boldor is a mid-season leafless variety of French selection by Florimond Desprez, intended for cultivation in the southern regions of Russia, in particular in the Krasnodar Krai and the North Caucasus region. The vegetative period lasts from 61 to 83 days, which allows for a stable harvest under moderate drought conditions. Plants reach a height of 32 to 72 cm, while the variety is characterized by high resistance to lodging and shedding, which ensures crop preservation and ease of harvesting.
A feature of the variety is the absence of leaflets: the leaf consists of a petiole with a multiply branched vein, ending with tendrils, which contributes to the vertical position of the plant without the need for additional support. The pods are weakly curved with a blunt tip, the seeds are oval, the cotyledons are yellow, and the hilum is light. The mass of 1000 seeds varies from 172 to 224 grams, indicating the size of the seeds. Protein content in the grain reaches 27%, making the variety attractive for use in the food and feed industries.
The Boldor variety has moderate drought tolerance and high resistance to ascochitis, which is confirmed by weak damage under field conditions. Yield of the variety based on state tests in the region reaches an average of 14 centners per hectare, while in Krasnodar Krai, the maximum indicators reached up to 38.4 centners per hectare, exceeding standard varieties. Thanks to its characteristics and adaptation to the climatic conditions of the southern regions, Boldor is one of the best pea varieties for cultivation under these conditions.
