Pajitnica is an annual or biennial herbaceous plant of the grass family, represented by several species such as Lolium remotum Schrank and Lolium multiflorum. Lolium remotum is characterized by stems 30 to 80 cm tall, green leaves, and a thin spike with 4-8 flowers. This species is found in the Polissia and Carpathian regions, where flax is actively cultivated. Lolium multiflorum, also known as Italian ryegrass, can reach up to 1.5 m in height and is distinguished by its high yield of green mass, making it a popular forage crop for cattle and widely used for lawn creation. Lolium multiflorum tolerates temporary flooding, which is especially important in humid climates. Due to its rapid growth and high productivity, it is widely used in agriculture, but it can also act as an aggressive weed, competing with main crops and reducing their yield. Pajitnica reproduces by seeds, which facilitates its rapid spread over large areas. Mechanical soil treatment after mowing and the use of specialized herbicides such as Betanal Max Pro, Lumax, and Adengo are used to control Lolium remotum. These measures help effectively combat the unwanted spread of the plant and maintain the yield of main agricultural crops.
