Oregano URUSVATI is a cultivar of common oregano (Origanum vulgare L.), specifically developed in Crimea for use in tea and the food industry. The cultivar is distinguished by its high carvacrol content, a natural antibiotic, which makes it a valuable ingredient for producing eco-friendly agricultural products and phytotherapy.
The plant is a perennial herbaceous species, widely distributed throughout Ukraine, where it grows both in wild habitats – forest clearings, meadows, roadsides – and in cultivated plantings: spice gardens, apothecary beds, and decorative mixed borders. Oregano URUSVATI adapts well to various climatic conditions, demonstrating drought resistance, frost hardiness, and the ability to grow on poor soils.
The medicinal properties of oregano are confirmed by the rich chemical composition of essential oils: thymol, carvacrol, felandrene, and free alcohols. Tannins in the plant possess anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and astringent effects, making it beneficial for gastritis and peptic ulcer disease. Additionally, oregano exhibits sedative, diuretic, hemostatic, and cholagogue effects, as well as promoting spasmolysis and improved intestinal peristalsis. In culinary arts, the cultivar is widely used in spice blends, imparting aroma and flavor to dishes, and in perfumery – as a natural flavoring agent.
Thus, oregano URUSVATI represents a versatile product with a wide range of applications: from food additives and teas to pharmaceutical preparations and aromatic agents, while maintaining high resilience to unfavorable growing conditions.
