Shallot Yellow Moon (Yellow Moon) is an early-maturing multi-bulb variety intended for growing both green leaves and bulbs. When planted in spring, green leaves can be harvested after 25-30 days, while bulbs mature within 70-85 days. The shallot forms clusters of 4-10 small, rounded bulbs weighing from 25 to 70 grams, covered by a dense yellow-brown skin. The leaves of this variety are narrow, tubular, and range from 20 to 40 cm in length, featuring a characteristic waxy coating that provides additional resistance to unfavorable conditions. The flesh has a soft, semi-sharp taste with a slight sweet undertone, reminiscent of a mix of onion and garlic, making it versatile for use in fresh salads, sandwiches, and other dishes. The variety is distinguished by high yield: green mass reaches 1.5-2.0 kg per square meter, while bulb yield is 2.5-3.0 kg per square meter. Yellow Moon shallot is resistant to bolting, bacterial and fungal diseases, and tolerates dry periods well, ensuring a stable yield even in complex climatic conditions. The bulbs exhibit good maturity—up to 90% before harvest and 100% after curing—and excellent storage capacity, allowing storage of the onion for up to 7 months without quality loss. Shallot planting can be done both in spring and in autumn, providing flexibility in agronomy and enabling the production of greens and bulbs in different seasons. Small shallot bulbs are suitable for pickling, roasting in the oven with honey sauce, and making onion pies. Thanks to its taste qualities and versatility, the Yellow Moon variety is popular among both home gardeners and commercial growers.
