Onion SIMA

Sima Onion by Bayram Tohum: Professional Salad Segment Selection

The Turkish breeding program by Bayram Tohum has established a reputation for developing resilient hybrids optimized for specific daylight conditions. The «Sima» onion is a specialized solution designed for producers focusing on the salad segment, performing best in long-day photoperiod environments.

Disease Resistance and Agronomic Performance

In modern intensive vegetable farming, soil-borne diseases pose a major threat to yield reliability. Sima distinguishes itself through innate resistance to pink root rot and Fusarium wilt, two of the most significant challenges in onion production. This genetic protection ensures higher consistency in crop establishment and bulb development.

Market Qualities

Sima produces classic, rounded bulbs protected by light-brown skin. Inside, the crisp white flesh offers the mild flavor profile required for the fresh-cut and salad market. With a yield potential ranging from 50 to 70 tons per hectare, it provides strong economic performance for commercial operations.

• Type: Long-day onion.
• Storage: Short-term (2–3 months), ideal for direct-to-market supply chains.
• Appearance: Round shape with a clean, light-brown outer layer.
• Primary usage: Fresh consumption, salad segment, and HoReCa supply.

The Sima hybrid is an excellent choice for growers in southern regions who need a reliable, high-yielding, and disease-resistant variety specifically tailored for short-term storage and rapid sales cycles.
