Minister F1 is an early hybrid of bulb onion, developed by Seminis, a Dutch breeding company. This hybrid has a vegetative period of 82–87 days after germination and belongs to mid-day plants. Minister onion can be successfully grown both by seedling method and direct sowing into open ground, demonstrating high adaptability to various agronomic conditions, soil types, and weather factors. Plants possess strong growth energy, a robust root system, and bright green foliage, which contributes to stable and high yields.
The market bulbs of Minister hybrid are round, medium or large in size, with thin necks. Outer scales are golden-yellow, dense, and multi-layered, while inner scales are white with a slight green tint, juicy and aromatic, with a distinctive sweet-bitter taste. Due to these qualities, this onion is suitable for fresh consumption as well as for processing and preservation. Seeds are packed in 250,000 units and recommended sowing rate is 0.6–0.7 million seeds per hectare for seedling method and 0.75–1 million seeds per hectare for direct sowing.
Minister hybrid is characterized by high resistance to common diseases such as basal rot and Fusarium wilt, ensuring crop preservation and quality. Thanks to these features, Minister F1 onion is an attractive choice for early harvest of high-quality produce, in demand in fresh vegetable markets and food industry.
