The multi-tiered Allium sort Likhova is a perennial herbaceous light-loving plant from the Onion family, also known under names rookweed, Egyptian, viviparous, and Canadian onion. It is characterized by the formation of several tiers of aerial bulbils on flower stalks up to 65-80 cm high, which allows harvesting greens and bulbs throughout the growing season. All parts of the plant are edible, and the small bulbils forming on the stalks are widely used for pickling and brining thanks to their tough and crisp texture.
The Likhova variety differs in high frost resistance and resistance to common pests, making it undemanding and easy to grow. The plant has a developed root system and tolerates a lack of light well. Green yield can reach 3.6 kg from one square meter, and the underground bulbs of this variety are larger and ripen earlier than chive bulbs. The bulbs do not require a resting period, which allows growing them at any time.
Growing the multi-tiered onion Likhova requires minimal care: planting bulbils is done by mid-August with the addition of organic and mineral fertilizers, and during growth, thinning, loosening, watering, weeding, and feeding with complex fertilizers are necessary. Onion greens are used fresh for preparing various dishes, while bulbils are suitable for pickling, making this variety universal and valuable for home and commercial cultivation.
