Onion Irina

Consistent Yield from Domestic Breeding

Working with the 'Irma' onion variety from NUBiP of Ukraine, the first thing you notice is its predictability. This is a classic salad-type onion that fits perfectly into a mid-late cultivation cycle. A vegetation period of 120–130 days allows for well-planned field operations, which is crucial for achieving high-quality, marketable bulbs.

Practical Cultivation Insights

In terms of field performance, 'Irma' demonstrates excellent uniformity. It is easier to work with such material: the bulbs mature evenly, which significantly simplifies mechanized harvesting. The bronze-yellow shade of the skin is not just for aesthetics; it indicates high density, which directly impacts durability during transport.

• Vegetation: 120–130 days, optimal for Ukrainian regions, helping to avoid peak summer droughts during the final stage of bulb formation.
• Application: Salad type. The bulb has a pleasant, moderately sharp flavor that is highly valued in cooking.
• Storage: The dense structure ensures decent shelf life when proper temperature regimes are maintained in storage facilities.

Why choose 'Irma'?

The main advantage of NUBiP of Ukraine's breeding here is adaptability. Under fluctuating summer conditions, the crop shows good resilience to stress factors, reducing the need for excessive chemical treatments. For an agronomist who values predictable results and prefers working with proven domestic genetic material, this variety serves as a reliable cornerstone for crop rotation.
