Early variety, excellent taste and good bulb quality
Halif — Early golden variety of bulb onion for fresh consumption and short-term (3-4 months) storage. Vegetation period — 65-75 days. Leaves of medium length, green with waxy coating. Bulbs of early Halif variety are round, medium-sized, weighing 130-170 g. Outer scales are golden-yellow, inner scales are white, juicy, crisp, mildly pungent. Early Halif onion variety is intended for salad use. Marketable bulbs are grown in one year, either by direct sowing of seeds into the ground or through seedlings (cassette technology). Seedling age is 45-60 days. Seed sowing rate for direct sowing into the ground is 4-5 kg/ha. The number of plants of early Halif onion per hectare should be approximately 0.8-1.2 million. If large bulbs are required, use a sparse sowing with a rate of 0.6-0.8 million plants per hectare. We recommend sowing with row spacing of 30-45 cm and intra-row spacing of 2.5-4.0 cm or 8.0-12.0 cm (depending on the desired product). For drip irrigation, we recommend 8 and 6-row sowing (20-25 plants per linear meter with row spacing of 27 cm). Onion is a moisture-loving crop with a weak root system, so regular watering is necessary to maintain air humidity at 75-80 % during germination and until bulb formation begins, and 70 % during bulb formation. Onion consumes the most water during the intensive growth phase of the bulb until the onset of stem lodging. Yield of early golden Halif onion variety — 50-70 t/ha.
