Onion Flexer

Stable yields for the salad onion market with Cora Seeds

Working with the Italian hybrid 'Flexer' has proven to be a reliable choice for farmers focused on consistency and bulb quality. The key advantage of this variety is its resilience under standard intensive cultivation practices.

Cultivation and agronomic insights

With a maturation period of 90–100 days, planning the harvesting logistics becomes straightforward. For the grower, the main benefit is the predictable shape of the bulb. The round geometry of 'Flexer' significantly simplifies post-harvest processing and packaging. Unlike more sensitive varieties, this hybrid develops a dense outer skin, which is crucial for storage if you are not aiming for immediate 'from the field' sales.

Harvesting specifics

The manufacturer recommends manual harvesting, and experience confirms this is the optimal method. Due to the variety's physiological characteristics, a careful manual approach minimizes mechanical damage to the bulb, directly improving its shelf life and market appearance in mesh bags. Field workers report that the neck dries out efficiently, allowing for quick cleaning of soil without extra effort.

Economic efficiency

As a salad-type onion, 'Flexer' occupies a high-margin niche. When optimal cultivation conditions are met, the hybrid delivers an excellent yield of standard-sized bulbs. For a business owner, this translates into a lower rejection rate during sorting and the ability to provide the market with a premium product that retains its presentation even after transportation.
