The onion variety 'Azelros' was developed at the All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Selection and Seed Production of Vegetable Crops (VNIISSO). The variety is included in the State Register of Selection Achievements of the Russian Federation, approved for use in the VOLGO-VIATSKY (4), CENTRAL-CHEMOSOIL (5) and WEST-SIBIRIAN (10) regions of Russia, intended for growing onion sets sown in early spring or in winter (annual crop) and via seedlings (biennial crop).
Bulbs weighing 70-120 g, round, shape index 0.9-1.0. Color of dry outer scales bright-yellow. Bulb dense, number of buds 1-3. The variety is low-clump, 1-2 bulbs per clump. Medium-early maturing — 90-105 days, yield 50-60 t/ha. Bulb has a semi-sharp taste, contains 12-16% dry matter, 8-12% sugars, high storability. The variety is of universal use.
Seed plants usually have 2-3 upright flower stems 75-100 cm tall, with swellings 2.0-2.5 cm thick. Leaf and flower stem color dark-green with moderate waxy coating.
Shows increased resistance to bacterial and neck rot.
