SARATOVSKOE 10

SARATOVSKOE 10 — a medium-maturing sorghum variety developed at the Southern-East Research Institute of Agriculture. The vegetation period is 86-91 days, allowing it to mature simultaneously with the Saratovskoe 6 variety or 1-3 days later. Plants have a height of 60 to 110 cm and a broad-leaved structure with leaf length of 30-35 cm. The panicle is compact, yellow in color, 19-20 cm long, the grain is large, spherical, and red, giving the product an attractive appearance and high technological qualities.

The variety is characterized by high yield — the average figure is 16.8 c/ha, and the maximum reaches 47.3 c/ha, which is 1.4 c/ha higher than the average standard. It is resistant to lodging, shattering, and head smut, including the most aggressive race of the smut pathogen (Sph.2 gene). Thanks to these characteristics, the variety is adapted to various natural conditions and is capable of forming large grain even in drought years. The mass of 1000 grains varies from 7.5 to 9.5 g.

Grain and groats quality is high, with excellent technological and culinary properties. Carotenoid pigment content in the grain increases the nutritional value of the product. The color and taste of the porridge are rated 4.5-5.0 points, indicating superior organoleptic qualities. Seed treatment is recommended only in primary seed plantations, in the production of commercial grain, this procedure is not required. The variety is approved for cultivation in various regions, including the Central-Black-Earth, Middle-Volga, Lower-Volga, Ural, and Western Siberia.
